Ever dreamt of checking in directly on Facebook? Well, if the latest reports are true, your dreams could become a reality very soon.
Facebook is expected to enter the geolocation sphere using third-party applications on their developer platform, according to CNET.
Two key entities are expected to have a major impact with Facebook. First, Localeze is partnering “to provide a business directory infrastructure” for the new platform.
But the second (and intriguing) option is a recent acquisition for Facebook: a startup named Hot Potato. Justin Shaffer, the founder, is apparently headed to San Francisco to work at the Facebook headquarters, and it is speculated that Hot Potato will be shut down as a result.
While Foursquare and Gowalla, among others, have established themselves as the cream of the crop when it comes to geolocation, it will be interesting to see the impact a geolocation platform could have when integrated into Facebook.
While more details are expected to be released in the near future, geolocation users are left wondering if Facebook will present their users with a product that can compete with these incredible startups.
If Facebook releases or integrates a geolocation product, do you believe that you will become active on it?
